In 1991 after leaving a long career with Fairfield Communities, Tom and Carole McKay opened Premier Properties, a small real estate and vacation rental business in downtown Lake Lure. By the early 90’s, more and more tourist were discovering Lake Lure. This small business began by managing 3 little cabins on the lake and has since grown into a full service, professional property management and vacation rental company offering some of the finest homes on Lake Lure.

In 2007 Tom and Carole were invited to take the real estate sales side of their business to a higher level and join as an independent affiliate of the international luxury brand of real estate; SOTHEBY'S INTERNATIONAL REALTY.

Upon acceptance, it became necessary to separate the vacation business from the real estate, and a new vacation business emerged; LAKE COUNTRY VACATION RENTALS. Lake Country Vacation Rentals offers professional property management and vacation rentals in the areas of Lake Lure, Chimney Rock, and at Rumbling Bald Resort.

Rapid growth and expansion, coupled with a new town ordinance regulating vacation rentals in single-family homes, and the current economy has produced challenges, but they are being met head-on by the "hands-on" management style of the McKay’s who are involved in the "day-to-day" management of each and every aspect of the business.

In 2009, Lake Country Vacation Rentals made significant changes in its business model with specific regard to the type and number of homes offered, as well as a unique and timely approach to Property Care. As the area’s premier Boutique Vacation Business, Lake Country Vacation Rentals now offers the area’s premier lakefront and resort homes. In addition to the McKay’s, a full support team of professional reservation, maintenance and property care staff are employed.

The main office is located at 2992 Memorial Highway in downtown Lake Lure. Office hours are 9am – 6pm Monday-Friday and until 6pm on Saturday during the prime season. A second location across from the entrance to Rumbling Bald Resort is open seasonally, April 3 through Labor Day on Thursday, Friday from 10am to 5pm and until 6pm on Saturday.

The Hickory Nut Gorge is also home to Chimney Rock State Park which in January 2009 was listed #3 best scenic view in the South by Southern Living Magazine. If you have ever visited Chimney Rock, you would know why! You could spend a whole day in this state park and then visit Chimney Rock village right outside the gates. The village is made up of unique shops featuring locally made crafts and wood carvings and wonderful local restaurants.

Hendersonville, NC home of the Apple Festival each September is only a 20 minute drive away. Here you will find a quaint downtown for exploring shops and restaurants all day. There are also larger retail stores and a movie theatre as well as a mall in Hendersonville .

Asheville, NC has recently been voted in the top 10 best city’s to visit by Southern Living Magazine. This eclectic town is home to Bele Chere, the largest outdoor street festival in the south east.
